Hi, I am Karin.

I am a cat coach and certified Reiki Practitioner on the Gold Coast, Australia, and I specialise in cat behaviour and environment enrichment management.

If your cat is experiencing physical or behavioural challenges, or if you just want to give your beloved puss a very special treat – with my love and dedication for everything feline, I am here to support you and your cat for his or her mental, emotional or physical health.

Having worked as a rostered volunteer in the quarantine ward at a cat shelter for more than ten years has taught me to read and deeply connect with cats. I am familiar with a broad range of behaviour problems and the special needs of socialisation cats or sick animals.

Do you recognise cats’ subtle signs of pain and emotional tension? They start feeling uncomfortable long before they begin soiling outside the litter box, hiding in the cupboard or showing unfamiliar aggression. Changes in eating, sleeping, playing and grooming could also be a red flag that something deeper is going on.

I can help you navigate behaviour issues and improve your cat’s physical and mental wellbeing. My services include cat behaviour and environment enrichment coaching and Reiki sessions – or a combination of the two.

I have a Certificate in Feline Behaviour and Psychology and a Certificate II as a Reiki practitioner. I regularly use Reiki with shelter cats and have seen its positive effects.

Behaviour and environment enrichment coaching

Behaviour problems in cats are often a sign of fear, stress or boredom. Your cat never deliberately wants to annoy you. Problems never happen for no reason and they rarely come out of the blue.

But unwanted behaviour is often due to a lack of understanding of the underlying causes or unrealistic owner expectations. For example, activities perceived as bad behaviour can be natural instincts that need to be better managed and adapted to an indoor environment.

Home visits are recommended for behaviour coaching, as I can experience and assess your cat in his/her familiar surroundings.

Behaviour coaching can help with:

  • stress

  • aggression and rough play

  • shy, nervous, timid behaviour

  • inappropriate spraying / toileting

  • scratching

  • overly needy behaviour

  • hyperactive behaviour, particularly in the early morning

I can advise on:

  • the crucial importance of play and the right way to do it

  • environment enrichment

  • mental stimulation

  • co-housing of multiple cats and new cat integration

  • the special needs of senior cats or kittens

  • recognising pain

  • general wellbeing concerns

My service can provide guidance and an assessment of your individual situation. I can help you with advice, but please be aware that behaviour modification training also requires your disciplined commitment on a daily basis.

What is animal Reiki

Reiki is an old Japanese healing modality that offers profound benefits for humans and animals. The practitioner channels universal life energy to bring the animal’s energy back into balance, and thereby promotes relaxation, reduces stress, and supports the healing process in animals.

While Reiki for humans has been successfully applied as a supporting modality in hospitals, cancer centres and hospices all over the world for a long time, it is now increasingly being used for our pets as well.

Research has demonstrated the positive effects of Reiki on animals' well-being, physical and emotional health: whether it's soothing nervous pets, enhancing socialisation or providing comfort to animals recovering from trauma or illness - Reiki offers a holistic approach to animal welfare that does not replace veterinary diagnosis and treatment but complements traditional veterinary care.

Reiki practitioners use intention, focus and meditation to build an ‘energetic bridge’ to the animal. It is a gentle, non-invasive and stress-free process. Reiki can be given hands-on or from a distance, which makes it a wonderful modality to work with animals who are fearful, aggressive or have lived through bad experiences.

Reiki creates a space of unconditional love and healing within and all around the practitioner. The animals can fully relax in this space and their body and minds can then facilitate the healing process.

A core feature of Reiki is that it can do no harm!

  • Supplementing medical treatments, easing pain

  • Supporting the healing process after surgery, injury, or trauma

  • Improving or regulating appetite

  • Helping resolve behaviour problems

  • Helping abused animals to recover from mental and physical trauma

  • Supporting an animal on its final journey and helping it to peacefully surrender life energy

What to expect

Tabby cat receiving reiki

You will see me make contact with your pet and then establish a silent energetic bond.

Your cat controls its own level of participation. Some will choose to approach voluntarily for hands-on treatment, often placing certain body-parts into my hands to show where they need healing the most. Others will prefer to receive the energy from across the room – and that’s fine, too. There is never a need to force or hold a cat down. Once they have had enough, cats will simply end the session and walk away.

The number of sessions required for optimal outcomes depends on your cat’s specific needs and underlying physical and mental health conditions. A session typically runs for 15 to 60 minutes, based on how much Reiki your cat is happy to receive.

When receiving Reiki your cats often relax after having been tense, anxious and unable to settle for a long time. Even a few minutes of such calm can be a valuable start. Other animals become energised after a session. Sometimes an injury or illness can "miraculously" mend in only a short time after months of no progress.

I do home visits or remote Reiki sessions only to make sure your cat is as relaxed as possible.

Remote Reiki sessions

The practitioner doesn’t have to be physically present to conduct a successful session.

Remote Reiki can be explained through the principles of quantum physics. Think of the wireless mechanism of mobile phones and remote controls – it’s essentially the same in that the Reiki energy travels. Each living being, be it a human or an animal, has a unique frequency. The practitioner will connect into that frequency at the beginning of the session and then send energy to the recipient.

Remote Reiki is useful for:

  • Times when life is busy and it might be difficult for you to squeeze in an in-person session or when your location does not allow me to visit you in your home

  • Nervous and stressed cats

  • Cats that are anxious around strangers

  • Emergency situations, as sessions can be arranged at short notice
